Full professor of contemporary history in the Department of History at the University of São Paulo. He is responsible for the subject Contemporary History with an emphasis on Asia. She coordinates the Asia Studies Laboratory at USP’s History Department. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State University (USA), studied for a master’s degree at the Pushkin Institute in Moscow (Russia) and a doctorate at the Fluminense Federal University. He specializes in the history of Russia and the former Eurasian USSR. His doctoral thesis was considered a pioneer in Brazilian historiography because it was the first national academic thesis on the history of Russia/USSR based on direct research in old classified Soviet archives and original Russian primary sources. He is the author of several books and articles on Russian history, including: The Decline of the USSR: a study of the causes (ed. Record), From Gorbachev to Putin (ed. Prismas), Russia: Europe or Asia (ed. Prismas), Russia and Brazil in Transformation (ed. 7letras) and The Russians (ed. Contexto). His work is part of the interface between history, political science and international relations.
